Licensing Verification
All home inspectors and real estate agents in Texas are governed by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) and must be licensed.

All home inspectors must provide their license number on any form of advertising, web page, report, etc.

You can quickly find the licensing status of your agent or inspector at TREC.

FYI: About Texas home inspectors
Texas was the first state to license home inspectors and to set out Standards of Practice that are codified in Texas law.

The Texas standards of practice are still the most stringent in the nation - more exacting than even the volunteer organizations such as American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI), National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI), etc.

Texas requirements for obtaining a license, including education/experience, testing, reporting and continuing education are all far more in-depth and exacting than any other state or professional organization. So much so, that several of the 'professional' lobby actively loby TREC and the Texas legislature to relax our standards. In fact, one of the founders of NACHI actively solicits reporting software companies to boycott the Texas market.

So, lower standards, inferior entrance requirements, easier exams, lighter reporting - and lobbying for reductions in Texas. There may be a reason only a minority of Texas home inspectors bother with outside, national associations....
